Meet Basil.
I'm a plaster artisan and furniture designer living in Austin. For two decades I’ve worked to master the ancient craft of woodworking. Obsessed with the internal: joinery, structure, engineering, the hidden knowledge beneath the surface that allows a table, a bed, a home, to outlast us all. As I’ve evolved as a designer and broadened both my perspective and my skills, the surfaces of the furniture and spaces I create have become equally as important. We live in a world where quality and luxury are only understood as thin veneers. Scratch the surface and the illusion fades away.

The faux and decorative arts began as inexpensive imitations of the authentic, hiding what lies beneath, yet have been elevated to stand in for the ancient materials and techniques that lift an object or a space towards the sublime.

My singular obsession is to reunite the inside with the outside, the ancient with the modern, and the purpose with the surface. In the process, we make meaning.
